The Flying Rig was developed by professional stage illusionist Willi Auerbach. It was created from the practical demands of international live productions and has been continuously refined over many years.

Today, this modern three-dimensional flying illusion is used both in Willi Auerbach’s own productions and by international performers. It combines state-of-the-art technology with a powerful magical presentation.

Compared with earlier generations of theatrical flying systems, this solution offers exceptional efficiency. A stage height of only 5 metres is sufficient to present the illusion. Only one backstage operator is required to start and supervise the pre-programmed flight path.

All movements follow the programmed flight sequence and are monitored by the trained operator, resulting in highly precise and perfectly repeatable performances.

Technical Highlights

The flying illusion is based on a specially developed “invisible” connection between the performer and a custom-fitted harness system.

All flight movements are electronically controlled and can be precisely adapted to each individual production.

Flight speed, acceleration and deceleration are individually programmable. This results in exceptionally smooth and natural flight movements while minimizing unwanted oscillations.

The result of this professional flying system is an elegant and natural flight motion that creates the convincing illusion of weightless floating.

  • Body Rotation: Forward and backward rotations, including somersault-style movements, achieved through natural weight shifting.

  • Harness: Custom-made, low-profile harness providing exceptional comfort while remaining virtually invisible beneath the costume.
  • Visual Integration: The specially developed connection system can be discreetly integrated into almost any costume.
  • Personnel Required: Operated by a single trained technician in addition to the performer.
  • Space Requirement: Requires only approximately 2 metres of stage width. The required length depends on the selected rail configuration.

Safety and Operation

The Flying Rig is a professional flying system designed for stage productions and may only be operated by trained personnel.

A two-day personal training course is included in the purchase price. During this training, your technicians receive comprehensive instruction in setup, operation, programming, maintenance and the safe operation of the system.

At the same time, the performer is thoroughly trained in the safe use of the Flying Rig and its flight movements.

After completing the training, you will be able to operate the Flying Rig independently, create new flight sequences and adapt existing flight paths to future productions.
